PEI is Canada's smallest province with a full-time population of approximately 140,000 which swells to over a million in the summer as families from all over the Canada and indeed the world flock to beautiful, serene PEI for their summer vacations. Most are drawn by the friendliness of the islanders and the laid-back, easy atmosphere which PEI is renowned for. PEI real estate offers beautiful views of rolling, pastural, almost English countryside as well as spectacular sunsets, quaint fishing harbours that are still part of a working fishery, deep-sea fishing expeditions, the bounty of the sea served up island style at the ubiquious lobster suppers, as well as world-class golf, wonderful sandy beaches, amusement parks, boating and swimming.

Truly a great place for the family to vacation away from the hustle-bustle of the city. PEI is however not without city and cultural attractions. Charlottetown, the seat of government, offers amazing shopping including many specialty island craft shops, sightseeing by double-decker bus, as well as plays and concerts at the Confederation Centre for the Arts, including Anne of Green Gables, based on the book written by Lucy Maud Montgomery, which PEI is known for throughtout the world. Charlottetown has also played host to the East Coast Music Awards and has its own Winter Festival, Jack Frost Festival and much more. You can be busy year round.

Due to PEI's jagged coastline, we are blessed with a plethora of inlet, bays and rivers, which substantially increase the amount of waterfront property available. Without a doubt we have some of the best PEI real estate buys in North America. You can purchase a waterfront lot for as little as $16,000, cottage lots to build your dream holiday retreat for as little as $8,900, and family homes start around $70,000, ranging to $500,000 in Summerside.

Summerside is the second largest city in PEI having a population of approx 17,000 people and is the government seat of Prince County. Summerside, the town that boasts "the only thing we overlook is the water", features several shopping malls, a new swimming pool and fitplex, a driving park, easily available schooling, both for elementary and secondary students as well as post-secondary through Holland College, and jobs in the industrial park, Slemon Park, a former military base and home to companies like Honeywell, Atlantic Turbine, and Testori. The town enjoys many beautiful tree-lined boulevards and large turn of the century character homes. These homes are available for a modest price and can be converted to bed and breakfasts.

Many people from the big cities of Canada and the US purchase cottages and other properties on PEI, use them as vacation homes and rent their properties when not in use to others so that they might enjoy them as well as bringing the owners income on their investment. Some owners engage property managers to look after their interests. The value of PEI real estate property must surely continue to increase - however it is still possible to find excellent investment opportunities. This beautiful island has so much to offer - so whether you are an islander looking for a new home, either a first-home or to accomodate a growing family, or you are looking for a place to relocate or retire to and get away from hectic city life, or you are looking for a vacation mecca and a chance to invest in PEI real estate, I encourage you to give me a call at 902-439-3819 or email mcharbonneau@royallepage.ca to find exactly what you are looking for.
